We’re in full-on fabrication mode for the orchard-inspired mobile we’re creating for a local affordable housing development. We just got back the laser-cut shapes, and next they’re headed to the powder coater to be painted various shades of green and brown. The bottom images shows the leaves’ dimension, to create a more dynamic feel to the piece. We’re thrilled to see everything coming together!
Living Room Light Mobile at Home
We just got this picture of our light mobile hanging in its permanent home in New York City. It’s such a beautiful space—we’re honored our light mobile gets to be part of it!
Dolphin Shapes
We’ve been eagerly awaiting these dolphin shapes, which have been at the laser cutter and powder coater. We love how vibrant the colors turned out. And now they’re headed to Florida!
Orchard-Inspired Mobile
Here’s a mobile we’re creating for an affordable housing development right here in Portland. The location of the housing development has a rich history—it used to be orchard fields of apple trees, hazelnut trees, peach trees, and hops, so we incorporated those four different types of leaves into the design. The final piece will hang 10 feet tall by 8 feet in diameter, and the branches and leaves will be powder-coated aluminum. We’re eager to see it come together!
Dophin Wall Features
Here are renderings of two wall sculptures we’re creating for a hospital in Florida. Each wall sculpture will measure 12 feet long by 4 feet tall, featuring pods of cheerful, colorful dolphins, designed to create a natural path of motion to help flow patients. This should come together relatively quickly, so stay tuned for updates!
Kansas High School Pre-Fab Mobiles
We’re making a series of Pre-Fab mobiles for a high school in Kansas, including a really large Pre-Fab Mobile 2. Matt is 5’11” and that ladder is 20 feet tall, which gives you a sense of the mobile’s size. Stay tuned for updates!
Skylight Ceiling Sculpture Renderings
Here are renderings for a project we’re creating to hang under a large skylight of an office lobby. It will hang about six feet in diameter by 8-10 feet tall. Stay tuned for updates!
Frank Lloyd Wright-Inspired Mobile Update
This Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired hanging mobile is finished and ready to ship to its owner in Maryland! The cluttered background of our shop kind of detracts from the mobile—but we’re thrilled that this design challenge resulted in such a fun piece.
And for even even more behind-the-scenes peek, here are a few pictures we’re sending the client to help with assembly and installation. (We won’t bore you with the ten-minute assembly instruction video we made.)
Unfair Advantage
Matt’s son recently participated in a pinewood derby. His car wasn’t the fastest, but thanks to a shop full of tools and a perfectionist father, it WAS the most beautiful.
Final Living Room Light Mobile
The light mobile is finished and ready to ship cross-country! We were so excited about the end result that we staged a few glamour shots in our office. We can’t wait to see pictures of it hanging in its final home!
And bonus: a video we took (pre-painting) to capture the mobile’s movement.
