Here’s a fun project in our queue! It’s an outdoor kinetic sculpture for a private residence in Annapolis. It will stand about 15 feet in diameter and will reside in the center of the home’s circular driveway. The base will be rusted steel with black arms. Below is a rough sketch Matt created and the 3D renderings Ben masterfully created. We’re so excited to see this come together!
Marriott Marquis NYC Materials
In a few weeks, we’ll travel east to install this ceiling sculpture in the New York City Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Meanwhile, here’s a behind-the-scenes peek at the shapes that will become the sculpture.
Happy Holidays, Version 2020
My goodness, what a year. Probably stating the obvious here, but it’s been such a roller coaster ride, full of changes, surprises, disappointments, and frustrations. But we’re so grateful that we’ve made it through in once piece, and we’ve been beyond grateful for every single project we’ve been able to complete this year.
This holiday season, Matt savored some much-needed time off work, enjoying modified traditions with his family, including a day of sledding, hiking, and playing in the snow at Mt. Hood.
This family picture seems to sum up 2020: grief, shock, gritted teeth, and even a bit of good-old fashioned happiness. Anyhow, wishing you and your loved ones peace and joy this holiday season—and wishes for a way, way better 2021!
Bay-Area Hospital Mobile Rendering
Here are renderings for a new project in our queue. This ceiling sculpture will hang in a newly renovated Bay-area hospital. It will hang 30 feet tall by 15 square feet. It incorporates about 300 shapes strung together.
PBS Mobile in the Shop
Here’s the completed PBS mobile hanging in our shop. And below are a few of the many images we sent the client so they could install the mobile themselves. It usually requires a lot of labels, cross referencing, and a super-long document or video detailing every step. (Let’s be honest: Matt loves for this kind of attention to detail.) We’re eager to see the final piece hanging in its permanent home!
New from Ekko Workshop!
We’re excited to introduce the newest mobile in our Ekko Workshop collection! We created this in collaboration with Herve Tullet, world-renowned children’s book author, illustrator, and artist. (Matt’s kids LOVED Herve’s Press Here book.)
Hoops Mobile features Herve’s signature style, with bright colors, organic hand-drawn shapes, and playful movement, with the precision and attention to detail of all of our Ekko Workshop pieces.
Hoops was designed to be displayed either as a desktop mobile or a hanging mobile. You can order one at www.ekkoworkshop.com.
Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Mobile Installation
The installation in Long Beach went totally smoothly. Here are pictures of the completed mobile hanging up—but admittedly, they’re a little underwhelming. Since the facility is still under construction, we left protective covering on the shapes to keep the mobile clean. We can’t wait to see images of the space once it’s finished!
Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Mobile
Matt and Ben are headed to California to install this mobile in the waiting area of the children’s hospital at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. It will hang 13 feet tall by 8 1/2 feet wide. We’re excited to get it installed!
Miami Pediatric Facility Mobiles
We recently received images of mobiles we shipped to a Miami-based pediatric medical facility during the summer. We were so relieved to see our virtual installation went smoothly!
Costa Rica Fish Mobile Progress
This fish mobile is heading to its new home in Costa Rica. Man, we wish we could install it in person. And then stay a week or month or so. We can’t to see pictures of it installed!
