Here's a photo we just received of the White Mobile we mentioned back on December 17. Looks grand above that grand piano, eh?
Final Purdue Mobile
Back in December, we mentioned a mobile we made for Purdue University (see December 8, 2009). Check out this photo of the final product!
Final Logo Mobile
We are so excited—we just got great photos of the logo mobiles (December 30, 2009) in their final home!
Unassuming
This little sketch may not look like much, but the mobile pictured is about to be recreated into a 30-foot tall mobile. The average man is 5 feet, 10 inches tall. The average giraffe is 14 feet tall. And this mobile will be 30 feet tall. Take some time to wrap your mind around that while we get started on it. (But first, we may need some time to wrap our minds around it, too.)
Logo Mobile
The project pictured here pretty much consumed our entire December. It required a whole lot of welding, grinding, polishing, and other finish work.
Once assembled and hung, it will be a set of two mobiles designed after a California-based company’s logo.
Since it took so much time to complete, we’ll devote plenty of blog space to it. These photographs document the project’s progression.
Stay tuned for photographs of the final piece!
White Mobile
Here’s a project we just completed. It’s a completely white powder-coated 10-foot tall by 6-foot wide mobile that will hang in a private residence in Los Angeles.
Purdue University Mobile
The mobile we mentioned last week? It will hang in a residence hall at Purdue University, right below a skylight, so it should cast lots of reflective shadows. It hangs 6.5 feet wide, 4.5 feet deep, and 6 feet tall. It includes 35 strands, with a total of 158 polished leaf shapes.
We’ve finished it up and shipped it off. But first we took some cool photos of it in our shop:
Sunny Day
It’s fall in Portland, which means one thing: gray skies.
So it was a pleasant surprise the other day to get some sunshine. And it was an extra-pleasant surprise to see the sunshine reflect off our our current project, lighting the back wall of our shop!
Seattle
We took a quick trip to Seattle, mainly to check out the Calder exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. Inspiring, of course!
We also ate at Poppy, a fantastic restaurant that we made a mobile for last year. (See October 16, 2008.) It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say Poppy was among the best meals we’ve ever had. Take our word for it, concord grape rosemary sorbet is genius.
Wisconsin Project
A few weeks ago we mentioned a collaborative project we were working on for a healthcare facility in Wisconsin. The client just sent images of the final piece!
