Moving On

As much fun as we had with that Louisiana project, it’s time to shift focus. Now we’re working on the mobile we first conceptualized last summer (See August 3, 2009) for a hospital in Virginia.

We put our industrial designer’s graphic design skills to the test by having him come up with various color schemes:

And the client chose the winning color combo:

We’ll spend the next month finalizing the project for an early April install. Stay tuned for updates!

Newsworthy

On their flight home from Louisiana, mobile installers Matt and Ben caught a glimpse of the image below in the local newspaper of the fellow sitting next to them. (Said fellow was kind enough to share said newspaper.)

Rapides Regional Medical Center Mobile

We just returned from Alexandria, Louisiana, where we installed this mobile in the women & children’s hospital of the Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Here are a few of our favorite images of the installation process:

Olympic Rings

The Winter Olympics are in full swing, but we’re a bit pre-occupied with some olympic-sized rings of our own. These massive (relatively speaking) rings were bent by hand, which may not sound like a big deal. But let’s just say it required the brilliance and brute strength of both our in-house mechanical engineer ANDindustrial designer. Phew. Gold medals for everyone!

Eventually, these rings will be incorporated into the colorful–and massive (not relatively speaking this time)–mobile pictured among the desk clutter (and mentioned in our blog on January 7).

White Mobile at Home

Here's a photo we just received of the White Mobile we mentioned back on December 17. Looks grand above that grand piano, eh?

Final Purdue Mobile

Back in December, we mentioned a mobile we made for Purdue University (see December 8, 2009). Check out this photo of the final product!

Final Logo Mobile

We are so excited—we just got great photos of the logo mobiles (December 30, 2009) in their final home!

Unassuming

This little sketch may not look like much, but the mobile pictured is about to be recreated into a 30-foot tall mobile. The average man is 5 feet, 10 inches tall. The average giraffe is 14 feet tall. And this mobile will be 30 feet tall. Take some time to wrap your mind around that while we get started on it. (But first, we may need some time to wrap our minds around it, too.)

Logo Mobile

The project pictured here pretty much consumed our entire December. It required a whole lot of welding, grinding, polishing, and other finish work.

Once assembled and hung, it will be a set of two mobiles designed after a California-based company’s logo.

Since it took so much time to complete, we’ll devote plenty of blog space to it. These photographs document the project’s progression.

Stay tuned for photographs of the final piece!
