Double Progress

It's always exciting to see a project make huge progress, and it's double—no triple—exciting to see two projects make significant progress. For example, we just received these laser-cut shapes for this mobile

And this mobile is finished up and en route to Green Bay, Wisconsin!

Mobile Materials

Over the next couple of weeks, these humble materials:

will be transformed into this 10-foot-tall by 15-foot-wide mobile:

The final piece will hang in the commons area of a Green Bay, Wisconsin-based engineering firm.

Upcoming!

We're juggling a couple of fun projects right now, and here's a graphic rendering of one that's in the queue:

This colorful mobile will hang in the lobby of an Atlanta-based hospital. Installation is scheduled for early 2014. Stay tuned for updates!

Glass Mobile

We just sent off this fun glass mobile to some folks in Texas for their modern home. It hangs 5 feet wide by 3 feet tall, and we were lucky enough to collaborate once again with the fantastic glass artist, Leah Pellegrini.

YMCA Mobile Installation

Matt and Ben spent the week in Rhode Island installing this mobile in a local YMCA. For logistical purposes, they worked at night and slept during the day—and compared to past installations, the sleeping-during-the-day part was a real treat! All in all, the installation went smoothly, and the final piece looks lovely.

The piece incorporates 55 individual mobiles (out of 300 total shapes) strung together to span 25 feet in the YMCA's lobby area.

Ekko Workshop Update

A quick little Ekko Workshop update: The folks at Fab.com were pretty darn happy with the Ekko Workshop flash sale they held this summer, so they've asked to carry them on their website for the entire holiday season.

So, in case you were wondering, here's what a pile of inventory for Fab looks like!

Shop Renovation

We've doubled our shop space, which is requiring some serious renovations, and my goodness, has it been a slow and steady undertaking.

Here is the new space, which is adjacent to our existing shop. As you can see, we're already getting good use out of it to store ladders, packaging materials, bicycles, bike trailers, and whatnot. You can also see, way in the background, where we've started ripping out a wall to connect the new and existing spaces.

And here, Matt is outlining his grand vision for this particular nook.

Ekko Mobiles: The Movie!

If you have four minutes to spare, grab some popcorn and settle in for a little film about Ekko Mobiles!

Many thanks to Chris and Mara and Voxity Video Productions, the fantastic producers of this film!

YMCA Mobile

Here's one of the projects we have on tap this fall:

It's a 25-foot-long mobile with a smaller accent piece—inspired by our Progression Mobile—that will hang in the lobby of a Rhode Island YMCA.

Happy Summer!

Things may be quiet on the Ekko Blog, but it's not because we're bored! Here are a few things we've been up to this summer:

  • Ekko Workshop on Fab.com
  • New York trip to repair this mobile from Hurricane Sandy damages
  • Brainstorming and prepping for several projects slated for fall.
  • Wall bashing in preparation for some shop renovations.
  • Bicycling. A lot.
  • Vacation to various destinations, where we enjoyed oceans, lakes, rivers, mountains, Redwood trees, farm animals, son cones, and lots and lots of family time. Long live summer!
