SemiSwing in Singapore

We were excited to receive these photos today from recent Ekko Mobile recipient in Singapore.

The mobile, SemiSwing, hangs 10-feet tall with a 5-foot span at its widest point. Each of the semi-circular elements spins independently. The recipient strategically placed the mobile below an air conditioning vent, providing plenty of airflow for the freely moving mobile.

She selected the color scheme from a painting that hangs on the opposite wall. We think the mobile adds a lively splash of color to her neutral (and very lovely!) living room.

Happy Birthday, Red Ovals!

Red Ovals just celebrated its two-year birthday!

You see, it was two years ago that Matt, Ekko’s head-honcho mobile artist, and his wife were expecting their first child. Matt was teased mercilessly because he hadn’t yet made a mobile for his impending baby, (What’s that saying about the cobbler’s kids?) so he and his eight-months-pregnant wife took their favorite elements from their favorite Ekko designs and came up with Red Ovals.

It turned out WAY too big for the baby’s nursery, so it hung in their living room instead.

The baby came six weeks later, and Red Ovals had her mesmerized from day three (her first day home from the hospital).

Nine months later, the family said a sad goodbye to Red Ovals, when it was acquired by DDP Gallery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. But it was just as well, since shortly thereafter, the family moved cross country to a much smaller dwelling without room for a (relatively) massive Red Ovals.

The baby (who is actually now a toddler) is approaching her second birthday. She’s hoping for a mini-red ovals. Check the shop in late July to see if that pans out…

Modern Baby, Modern Mobile

If you can peel your eyes away from this adorable baby for a moment, check out the custom Hidalgo that hangs above her crib. Lovely!

And by the way, we love seeing our mobiles in their permanent homes. Once yours is up, send us pics to ekkomobiles.com (And don’t worry—professional photographs not necessary!)

Update: Sadly, we don't make this Hidalgo mobile anymore, but you can find tons of modern baby mobiles and nursery mobiles (including our own line of Ekko Workshop mobiles) from our friends at Hanging Mobile Gallery.

Chartreuse? Lavendar? Sure Thing.

You may have noticed many of our mobiles come in bright primary colors. But that doesn’t mean won’t venture beyond the basics. Nearly all of our mobiles are customizable. In fact, we even had a customer recently order a Charade in purple, lime green, and bubble gum pink. It turned out great. So feel free to go wild!

Blue Circle, Red Square...

Here’s a mobile we’re about to send off to a library in the Chicago area. It will hang in the library’s children’s section, hence the geometric shapes and bright, primary colors.

It hangs about 6 feet across, and the shapes are a translucent acrylic that looks really cool when light shines through it.

Set Your TiVo

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting more info on our Divine Design appearance (see April 24, 2008), we’ve got an air date for you.

Sort of.

Our mobile will air in the fourth Divine Design episode of HGTV’s fall 2008 season. We’ll let you know when we find out an exact date!

We're Live!

After a few trial-run weeks, our new Ekko Mobiles web site is now live under our www.ekkomobiles.com web address. We still need to make a couple minor tweaks, like add more projects to our commissions section. But all the important stuff here, ready to go. Be sure to check out our shop, with an expanded selection of mobiles and a great new option to select custom colors on some of our most popular pieces.

Happy browsing!

Commissions 101

Lately, we’ve had a lot of people interested in White Ribbons. One guy asked about getting a much smaller piece for his living room. Another guy asked if it’s available in colors other than white.

Here’s the great thing about commissions: They’re totally tailored to you. So when it comes to colors, sizes, materials—you name it—as long as it doesn’t break the laws of physics, we can pretty much make it happen!

A Bold Entrance

Here’s a mobile we just provided to an architecture firm in Louisville, Kentucky. The firm had just renovated a historic building and wanted a bold piece for the office’s two-story foyer. We used strong colors and thick wire to give the mobile a substantial feel.

We especially love how the colors pop from below:
