Matt is spending a lot of quality time lately with metal mesh fabric. The casino ceiling sculpture is coming together, and installation is just a few weeks away!
Leaf Shapes and Finishes
Here are leaf cutouts—redbud, ginkgo, and sycamore—in different finishes for our Canyon Springs leaf mobile.
Casino Ceiling Sculpture Frame
It’s time to start building the casino ceiling sculpture. We rarely fully assemble projects in our shop space, but we really need to for this particular project. We need to ensure the material behaves how we want it to and that we create the movement the client is looking for. We’ve created a frame (consuming a huge chunk of our workspace!) to hang the piece from. Stay tuned for updates!
Leaf Mobile Renderings
We’re starting to make headway on the leaf mobile we’re designing and creating for an Arizona medical office building. This will include several different leaf shapes cut from thin metal that we’ll treat with different chemicals to yield different textures and finishes. More updates coming soon!
The Happiest (Most-Exhausting?) Place on Earth!
After some grueling installations and very long work days, the Ekko Mobiles team skipped town to put in long, grueling days at Disney World. (Grueling days at Disney World are certainly more fun!)
Casino Ceiling Sculpture Mock Up
We don’t often do small-scale mock-ups of our projects, but we definitely needed to for this casino ceiling sculpture. This mock-up helped us figure out how the material behaves and what sort of movement the client is looking for. Next, we’ll start build the full-scale piece in our shop.
Hervé Tullet Ekko Workshop Collab at MoMA Design Store
Awhile back, we mentioned our new Hoops Mobile, a collaborative project with author/illustrator/artist Hervé Tullet. Here’s part of a shipment headed to be carried exclusively at the MoMA Design Store. Get your hands on one now!
Galaxy Feedback
Matt and Ben are still riding high (and utterly exhausted) from completing the Galaxy installation. And we have received the best feedback about it!
The art consultant (who forwarded these particular images of the piece) said, “These images circulated to a few people and all responded with such wonderful comments and feedback including [the CEO of Houston Methodist] with ‘stunning.’”
And Daniel Goldstein, the concept artist, said, “Oh Matt!!!! It looks amazing. I cannot thank you enough for your outstanding work. I hope you are happy with it. I know I am. I know how grueling those installations can be. Get some sleep. Thank you and your team for your phenomenal work.”
(We especially appreciate that Daniel understands how truly grueling installations can be!)
