We're still sewing up a storm for the Detroit hotel project, but meanwhile, we'll share a rendering of another project in our queue. This custom mobile will hang in the stairway of a Wisconsin-based hospital. It will be made of bright transparent acrylic shapes so it will be easily visible from outside. The mobile itself will hang about 12 feet tall by 5 feet tall. Stay tuned for updates!
Los Angeles Hotel Wall Divider
Here's another project in our queue—and the rendering might not make much sense without a little explanation. We were asked to create an artistic feature to act as a divider between two separate areas in a Los Angeles hotel.
Working with the client, we designed this piece, which will consist of painted aluminum shapes hung from tension-strung cables. The piece will create the desired separation while providing an interesting visual statement. It's definitely a departure from the projects we usually work on—and we're thrilled to tackle it!
Seamstress Central
Things are getting real on the Detroit hotel project. The frames are built, and now we're in sewing mode. We've enlisted our favorite seamstresses to sew like crazy for the next few weeks. See those three machines? They're going full tilt these days.
Playing Hooky
It's been a crazy busy summer here at Ekko Mobiles, but Matt managed to sneak away to spend a little time getting lost in the wilderness.
Current State of the Shop
Crowded. Really crowded.
White Crane Mobile in Motion
If you can forgive the messy background of piled-up boxes, check out our crane mobile in motion!
WHITE Cranes Mobile!
Well our black cranes mobile of turned into white cranes along the way. And we love how they turned out! We just finished assembling, packaing, and shipped it to the client. We can't wait to see pictures of it hanging!
Packaging the mobile was serious business.
Bon Voyage!
Wall and Ceiling Sculpture Installation!
This week we installed this wall and ceiling sculpture, just a few miles away from our shop. We're so happy with the result!
Detroit Hotel Mobile Model
For the Detroit hotel project, we created a scale model for the client. We had the shapes created by a local 3D-printing fabricator (which kinda makes us want a 3D printer...). Then Matt spent a good chunk of time hanging, balancing, and refining the model. Then he spent another chunk of time figuring out how to safely ship it! The good news is that it made it safely to the client. Phew!
Crane Mobile Prototype and Shapes
We're making serious progress on the origami cranes ceiling sculpture. First, we designed this prototype, to replicate the style of an origami crane out of metal:
Then we had a whole bunch of shapes laser cut. Here's the "body" portion of the crane:
And NOW, the body and wing shapes are at the powder-coater. Up next: assembly!
